Volume 10, Issue 20

From the Rt. Rev. Barry L. Beisner

Dear Friends in Christ:

This week, at the Convention of the Diocese of Honduras, the following message from me will be read:

“To my dear brother in Christ, Bishop Allen, and to the People of the Diocese of Honduras: Grace and peace to you in our Lord Jesus Christ!  On behalf of all the clergy and people of the Diocese of Northern California, I send you heartfelt greetings.  We are grateful for the gift of our companion diocese relationship.  It has been a joy and help to many in Northern California to come to know some of you personally, and we hope to see that circle of friendship grow much larger.  I myself hope to be able to visit next year, if God wills (and the Bishop of Honduras thinks he can endure it). I and the people of this Diocese pray for you, knowing that the challenges and opportunities you face are many, and that resources are limited.  We promise to continue to help as we are able.  We hope that you will also keep us and our needs in mind, and pray that we may more faithfully respond to the call of our Lord. May God bless your work in Convention, and may God bless the Bishop and Diocese of Honduras. Yours in the love of Christ, +Barry”

Next month, several people from this Diocese will visit our sisters and brothers in Honduras.  (One group is being led by Eric Duff, the other by Faith Church, Cameron Park.)  Ed Howell is there now, and will actually be attending their Convention.

It is wonderful to see the many outside-the-USA mission relationships which the congregations of our Diocese have.  These include work in Haiti, Mexico, El Salvador, Uganda, and Sudan.  I commend all of you who are actively nurturing a commitment to Christian mission in your congregations through such transforming relationships.  It is my hope that all of our congregations will engage in some significant mission work beyond our borders.  As you explore such possibilities, please be particularly mindful of our relationship with our official Companion, the Diocese of Honduras.

Yours in the power of Pentecost,

+Barry

psA few weeks ago I appealed for contributions to assist poorer dioceses hoping to participate in the coming (incredibly expensive) Lambeth Conference.  Honduras is one of several dioceses in The Episcopal Church which could really use our help with the expenses of this once-a-decade gathering.   To the three congregations who have responded, I am most grateful.  But more is needed, and soon.  If you are inclined to help, please take the time to do so now.  I had requested $100 from each congregation, but will be glad of any amount.  Thanks!
