From the Rev Christine Leigh-Taylor and Nancy Tennyson
Dear Friends in Christ:
The recent Visioning Conference produced much excitement,
networking and brainstorming. Even better, it resulted in a consensus of shared
vision around three core purposes of our diocesan life together. As co-chairs
of the Diocesan Christian Formation Commission, Nancy Tennyson and I were
gratified to see that "Making disciples through spiritual formation and
education" is one such core purpose.
In fact, some of us have been doing Christian Formation so
long that we could use fresh ideas. Some of us just like fresh ideas at any
time! We are talking not just about Sunday School and
Confirmation, but adult formation, spiritual development and other programs
that nurture our confidence in God's abiding love.
Considering that some churches are in a building mode, some
are rebuilding, and some are struggling, we thought it might be helpful to
share information about various resources used throughout the Diocese. The idea
is to provide contacts so that churches might ask questions of each other about
how to employ particular programs or reach a certain audience.
At the Clergy Conference last February we made available a
one-page inventory sheet to collect such information. About a dozen churches
responded, either at the Conference or in the days that followed. Some
misplaced the form. You can access it HERE.
Nancy and I also welcome your interest in the Christian
Formation Commission. We'd like to hear your concerns, desires and suggestions,
AND your suggested members to expand the group.
We are intending to conduct most of our (approximately quarterly)
meetings via phone conference, so residency in the
