Three Steps to Consider

Untitled Document

Before joining an online Social Media Networking (SMN) site, please consider these steps:

1) Consider creating a church e-mail address specific to your new SMN page(s); create an e-mail address you will not share but will use to maintain your SMN page, such as online@yourchurchaddress.org.

2) Be certain to retain your "branding" when creating your SMN page; use your church's logo and/or photo, your mission statement or "tagline," and correct contact information, including website address.

3) With Facebook, consider the advantages of using a page versus group, including the ability to create and invite people to attend church events, generate discussion groups, etc. Click here for details on Facebook pages versus groups.

Getting Started...

Not sure which Social Media Network to join? Here are some basics to help you get started...

Facebook --for better connecting with your parishioners, families and friends, sharing event invitations, photos and more!

Twitter --to keep your "fans" and the news media apprised of your church developments. Planting a community garden? Inviting your community to attend a choir concert? Twitter can work for you!

Vimeo and/or YouTube --to post video clips of sermons, choir performances, speaker presentations and more! Note: Vimeo allows for larger video uploads.

Linkedin --otherwise known as the online business connection, Linkedin is a great way to connect with other clergy, parishioners, family, friends and even the Diocese. Give recommendations, share employment resources, and more.
